As I close in on the finish of my new upcoming novel it is a nice break to get out and meet people who like to read. Especially, people who like to read my books. This was the case Dec. 2nd when I returned to Holiday Cheer Author and Book Signing event in Portland, where thousands of eager book buyers pursued their favorite authors and sought new titles to read.
These readers like to thumb the pages between their fingers when they read. Something about feeling the paper, holding the book, smelling the ink, and becoming part of the experience. I get it. It's a physical connection between story and author. Print is alive, no matter what you hear. People like to read, whether it's on-line, audio, or print, and that is good.
This year, I had several repeat buyers return to pick up their print copy of my latest book, "Death From Above." I also spoke, until my throat was raw, to hundreds of people, pitching my book for people whom have never heard of me or my books. Success. Sold many books to new readers.
I was off to a fast start because about a half dozen fans and friends hit me all at once when the doors opened. I'm grateful to them and to all of the other readers out there. I don't know about the other authors, but I write because I want people to read my stories. The more people who read and enjoy them, the happier I become.
So until next year, or the next signing, I hope to be able to meet new fans who enjoy my books, and get a shot of adrenaline to keep me motivated to write my next book.
